The Sweetest Music

Scout started singing in the children’s choir in church at the beginning of third grade. The choir director was excited to have him on board. She’s known him since he was in Kindergarten when she was the music teacher in the school. She likes that he sings loud, not overly loud, just loud enough to be heard…so many kids don’t. This Sunday I heard the results of their weekly practices.

We were sitting in the ‘cry room’. I was sitting at one end of the front row under the speaker. He was sitting in the row behind me three seats over. During one of the songs that the children’s choir sings regularly he started singing the counter-melody/echo/harmony (whatever it’s called) and I got lost in his voice. It was beautiful. I could hear him over the speaker. He was singing like no one was listening. I couldn’t help it, it brought tears to my eyes.

What do your kids do, what special talents do they possess, that takes you away from the here-and-now?
