Oh, you have to be kidding me…

Porn industry seeks federal bailout from CNN.

WASHINGTON (CNN) — Another major American industry is asking for assistance as the global financial crisis continues: Hustler publisher Larry Flynt and Girls Gone Wild CEO Joe Francis said Wednesday they will request that Congress allocate $5 billion for a bailout of the adult entertainment industry.

Are you kidding!? How can this be justified!? These people are just way too full of themselves. To compare the adult entertainment industry to the big three automakers or the banking/financial industry is laughable.

…“the US government should actively support the adult industry’s survival and growth, just as it feels the need to support any other industry cherished by the American people.”

They’re assuming the adult entertainment industry is cherished by the American people. What does this say about us, as a country, if our lawmakers support this in our current financial state? the world’s financial state? because, really, this is more important that health care? education? feeding the hungry? housing the homeless?

Flynt and Francis concede the industry itself is in no financial danger — DVD sales have slipped over the past year, but Web traffic has continued to grow.

So the industry is in no financial danger, but they need a $5 billion bailout?

“This is very unhealthy as a nation. Americans can do without cars and such but they cannot do without sex.”

Yeah, sex will get me to work… no pun/entendre intended.

“With all this economic misery and people losing all that money, sex is the farthest thing from their mind. It’s time for congress to rejuvenate the sexual appetite of America. The only way they can do this is by supporting the adult industry and doing it quickly.

Is that really Congress’ job? Funny, I don’t recall reading that in the Constitution. This might be worth staying up late for Letterman. I’d love to hear him on this.
